Mu Koh Surin National Marine ParkSituated north of the Similans the Surin Marine National Park was one of the first National Marine Parks of Thailand and still probably one of the best managed. Only 7 kilometres from the Burmese (Myanmar) border. It consists of five granite islands covered in lush forest with idyllic beaches and beautifully clear water.
The Surin Islands attract breeding turtles, as they come to Koh Chi to feed and lay their eggs. As well as turtles we there are crabs, shrimps and reef sharks. There are gardens of anemones, sponges and an impressive variety of corals and giant clams. The northern Surin Islands are also a top spot for 'big fish'.
The Islands of Koh Bon and Koh Tachai are a part of the Surin National Marine Park. Due to their isolated location these islands offer excellent opportunities to see white tip reef sharks, mantas and whale sharks. Koh Bon is a beautiful rock island with a display of schooling fish, octupus and cuttlefish. Good coral growth, anemones and sea sponges make this an exceptional dive spot teeming with life. Just this make Koh Bon a great dive site but its known primarily for its visiting whalesharks and manta rays, most reliabily seen between January and March. Koh Tachai is another beautiful island with a series of submerged pinnacles and boulders which form excellent swim throughs. A variety of sea fans, feather stars and anemones with large Napoleon wrasse and yellow tail barracudas weaving through schools of bannerfish and fusiliers.
