Egypt’s seemingly endless Red Sea coastline stretches from the Sudan border north to the Suez Canal, and from the Suez Canal skirting around the Sinai to Taba. Dotted along its full length are just a handful of resorts rising on the margin between sea and desert mountain.
Most recently developed is Marsa Alam in the South with its fringing reefs and access, by day boat, to Elphinstone. North from here is the old trading port of El Qusier with its little dived reefs and North again is Hurghada, now a thriving cosmopolitan resort it has long attracted divers to its offshore islands. El Gouna is just 15 minutes up the road and that little bit closer to the wrecks of the Straits of Gubal, accessible to the shorebased diver. The Sinai has 3 or 4 resorts but of greatest interest to divers is Sharm with access to all the sites from Ras Mohamed to the straits of Tiran.
Using scheduled flights its possible to comfortably cover a lot of ground and dive all four resorts in one holiday or just sample a couple at a time.
